Bar shot were employed to destroy an enemy ships masts and rigging. It was designed to tumble and cause maximum damage, thus disabling the enemy. This example was reportedly excavated decades ago in or near Lake Champlain by Fort Ticonderoga. The American fleet under Benedict Arnold was defeated at the Battle of Valcour Bay on October 11, 1776 and retreated to Fort Ticonderoga burning what was left of the motley American Fleet. His tactics of delaying the British Navy contributed to the American victory at Saratoga.

Overall condition is very good with expected signs of age and pitting.
