Original Item: Only One Available. This is a nice example of an Original WWII Japanese Officers Private Purchase Canteen. This was likely brought home by an American GI as a war trophy from the South Pacific.

These private purchase canteens were used by officers of all branches of the Japanese Armed Forces during WWII. It features an aluminum body with a removable small drinking cup which secures to the top. Under the cup, an aluminum topped cork stopper is still in place. The gabardine wool cover still retains all of its original functional snaps, and exhibits numerous moth holes. The original leather shoulder strap is retained and is in good shape, just cracking and crazing. The strap retains markings on the opposite side reading Showa 13, for the year 1938.

Overall a wonderful wartime Officers canteen, ready for further research and display.
