Bill Barry knows sambar deer.

He has hunted them extensively, was one of the earliest successful sambar guides and kept and studied them in a large bush enclosure for many years.

His beautiful German Shorthaired Pointers were renowned in their day as the best in the sambar scene.

This collection of anecdotes reflects on a life well lived and hunted hard – both in Australia and New Zealand. It also instills the essence of a sambar hunter – respect for the quarry, for the bush, for other users are paramount.

A great book to stuff in your pack and pick up under canvas on your next hunting adventure.
